Join us Sunday, April 18 as we begin the new message series The Survivors Club. – Invite your Friends and Family

We’re all hit by various storms in life: loss of loved ones, relational turmoil, career changes, financial struggles, violent crime, sickness, etc. These storms can threaten our commitment and our happiness as we struggle to keep from sinking. What do we do when we get overwhelmed by the storms of life? How do we remain faithful and obedient to God? How do we rely on His wisdom no matter what we face? This series is all about stories from God’s Word with some practical wisdom for surviving storms.

There are many characters in God’s Word who faced various challenges and storms that threatened their very lives. They learned some important lessons about God and the trials we face on this earth. They joined the “Survivors Club.”

April 18 – Part 1

Matthew 8:23-27 Survivors see God in the storm.

Jesus calming the storm and rebuking his disciples for a lack of faith.

Life is a series of storms. They come in various forms. Sometimes we run from storms, give in to storms, or resent the storms. God wants us to see that He is close to us at all times and that He cares.

April 25 – 30HF Famine Sunday

Survivors are moved to love and serve

Building Compassionate Hearts.

May 2 – Part 2 (Floyd)

Matthew 7:24-29 – Survivors build their lives on God’s wisdom.

Jesus’ parable of building your house upon sand / rock.

The only way to guard against the onslaught of the evil one is to build our life’s foundation on The Rock – on Jesus Himself.

Building Wisdom: Focus on the Rock, Listen, Dig deep, Plan, take a soil sample, build on the right lot, have your home inspected.

May 9 – Part 3

Genesis 6-9 (Genesis 6:5-9) – Survivors listen to God.

Noah had this faithful habit of listening to God. That’s what separated him from all the rest. God spoke and Noah listened and obeyed. In the storms of life, God uses ordinary people who are committed and submitted to him.

How do we dial in and listen to God? How do we know that it’s God who is speaking to us? How do we RSVP to God when we know He’s speaking to us?

Students of Soul Rio’s “Underground” are participating in a 30-Hour Famine on April 23-24, 2010.  Students will fast for 30 hours while fundraising and raising awareness of hunger of poverty.  All proceeds from the Famine will go to World Vision.  Students are seeking financial and prayer sponsors.

World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine is a worldwide movement of students who are serious about serving God and fighting hunger – all on an empty stomach.  For 30 hours, participants get a taste of hunger by not eating – something more than a billion people around the world experience every day. And by doing fundraising activities, community service projects, and learning more about the facts of world hunger, students are changed in amazing ways as they help others and save lives.
